Self‐Assembled Hollow Polyaniline/Au Nanospheres Obtained by a One‐Step Synthesis

Abstract: Self‐assembled hollow nanosphere composites of polyaniline and Au nanoparticles (PANI‐p‐TSA/Au) were chemically synthesized from solutions containing p‐toluenesulfonic acid (p‐TSA) with the addition of gold chloride trihydrate as the oxidant. The composite materials were characterized by SEM, TEM, and a range of spectroscopic methods. Spectroscopic characterizations confirmed that the polymeric product is a form of doped PANI, while electron diffraction and X‐ray diffraction showed that elemental Au was presen… Show more

“…The peaks at 1315 and 1243 are attributed to the C-N and C¼N stretching modes. The bands at 1142 and 819 cm À1 are assigned to the C-H in-plane and out-of-plane bending modes [8]. The two intense peaks at 3512 and 3430 cm À1 are assigned to the O-H stretching modes of Cu 2 (OH) 3 Cl [21].…”

“…Self-assembly method, using 'soft templates' such as micelles, attracts much attention for producing hollow micro or nanospheres of conducting polymers. This approach is inexpensive and simple as it does not involve the required pre-and postsynthesis procedures to prepare and remove the 'hard' templates [12,13]. Wan et al prepared hollow microspheres of polyaniline (PANI) by self-assembly method with salicylic acid and naphthalene-2-sulphonic acid as dopants [14,15].…”

“…The synergistic properties of PANI and Au have been utilized for extensive applications in diverse areas [24]. Au-PANI composites have been prepared by chemical [25,26] and electrochemical [27] methods. However, in most of the PANI-Au composites, no strong attachment between PANI chains and Au particles has been reported.…”
