Selenium Protects Retinal Cells from Cisplatin Induced Alterations in Carbohydrate Residues

Abstract: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Approximately 15 to 20% of NSCLC patients present with early or localised disease; this figure is expected to grow with the increased use of low-dose computed tomography (CT) scans for screening (1). The standard treatment for operable stage I NSCLC is lobectomy or pneumonectomy with mediastinal lymphadenectomy. Five-year survival rates of early stage NSCLC patients range between 60 and 80% after surgical resection (2). Des… Show more

“…The treatment of lung cancer is mainly through surgical treatment, radiotherapy and chemotherapy to cure or control the disease 2. As the main treatment method for cancer, radiotherapy has become an effective therapy 3; however, even after advanced radiotherapy, some patients still show radiation resistance and suffer subsequent cancer recurrence and metastasis 4, 5. Therefore, the radiation resistance of tumor cells remains a major obstacle in effective tumor radiotherapy.…”

“…Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for approximately 85-90% of lung cancers, which has proven to be difficult to be treated due to poorly understood the pathogenesis ( Oyewumi et al, 2014 ; Siegel et al, 2017 ). Conventional treatment strategies are used for NSCLC including surgical operation, radiotherapy and chemotherapy ( Scott et al, 2007 ; Onishi et al, 2011 ; Uzel and Abacıoğlu, 2015 ). In addition, tyrosine kinase-based inhibitors (TKIs) molecular-targeted therapy are also employed to the treatment of NSCLC patients with EGFR mutations.…”
