“…Phenotypic observations of rice shoot height, shoot fresh weight, shoot dry weight, and leaf chlorophyll content (SPAD value) were used to evaluate the phytotoxicity of ZIF-90-KSM [ 54 , 55 , 56 ]. As shown in Figure 7 A–D, the shoot height, shoot fresh weight, shoot dry weight, and leaf SPAD value of rice plants were not significantly affected by different concentrations of ZIF-90-KSM treatments compared to that of KSM aqueous solution treatments.…”

“…Drought stress has adverse effects on plant morphology (stem length, root length, and plant FW and DW) and biochemistry (decreased photosynthetic capacity) (Dubey et al 2021). Drought can significantly reduce FW and DW of the C 4 grass Spartina alterniflora, photosynthetic activity of all nitrogen sources (Hessini et al 2017), and cause a significant decreases in FW, DW, height, and stem diameter of fragrant rice seedlings (P < 0.05) (Luo et al 2021;Waqas Mazhar et al 2022). Our field survey showed that under long-term (3-year) severe drought, the main roots of S. tonkinensis were weakened, and fibrous roots were clustered (Figure S1A); under 3-year moderate drought, main roots were thick and strong (Figure S1B); when water content was too high, root rot often occurred, and aboveground parts wilted and dried (Figure S1C).…”

“…In this study, the application of the selenium fertilizer promoted the stem diameter in varying degrees, but the promoting effect gradually weakened with the advance in the growth period. Luo et al [48] confirmed that the application of selenium can significantly increase the stem diameter of rice under drought stress. The application of exogenous selenium could improve the anatomical characteristics of wheat stems and increase the stem diameter of wheat [49].…”
