Selectivity and Sensitivity of Near-Infrared Spectroscopic Sensing of β-Hydroxybutyrate, Glucose, and Urea in Ternary Aqueous Solutions

Abstract: The next-generation artificial pancreas is under development with the goal to enhance tight glycemic control for people with type 1 diabetes. Such technology requires the integration of a chemical sensing unit combined with an insulin infusion device controlled by an algorithm capable of autonomous operation. The potential of near-infrared spectroscopic sensing to serve as the chemical sensing unit is explored by demonstrating the ability to quantify multiple metabolic biomarkers from a single near-infrared sp… Show more

“…The peaks centered at 1830.49, 1697.22 and 1628.13 cm −1 were ascribed to the C=O group, and the C−C and C−O groups were in the regions of 1527.81, 1082.83, and 1248.59 cm −1 . These main functional groups can bind easily with metallic NPs by chelation and form a Ag NP core complex [ 31 , 32 , 33 ]. These peaks were also detected in the Ag NP films after drying.…”
