Abstract: Background Schizochytrium sp. is commercially used for production of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Schizochytrium sp. utilizes the polyketide synthase complex (PKS) and a single type I fatty acid synthase (FAS) to synthesize polyunsaturated fatty acids and saturated fatty acids, respectively.
