Selective Solid Phase Extraction for Separation and Preconcentration of Palladium from Gold Ore and Anode Slime after Complexation with a N4O2 Mixed Donor Ligand Derivative

Abstract: A selective and sensitive method for the preconcentration, separation, and determination of palladium with flame atomic absorption spectrometry using 4,15-bis[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-20, 21-dinitro-2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10,12,13,14,15,16,17-tetradecahydro-8,11-ethano-1,18,4,8,11,15-benzodioxa tetraaza cycloicosine (TNACIN) on XAD-2010 was developed. TNACIN-Pd(II) complex formed acidic aqueous solution (0.075-0.100 M HNO 3 ) was accumulated on XAD-2010 and then eluted with 1 M HCl in acetone. The effects of some anal… Show more

“…The most efficient eluents were used at 1 M, 333 K during one night to insure the complete recovery of Pd. Afterwards, the solutions were filtered through a 0.2 µm syringe filter, then titrated by AAS to evaluate desorption efficiency by mass balance defined in Equation 10.…”

“…Consequently, sorption and ion exchange processes present substantial advantages compared to other recovery methods in the case of dilute effluents to extract and concentrate precious metals [7][8][9][10]. New and innovative sorption processes are increasingly studied [11][12][13][14].…”

“…The metal is used in jewelry but also widely in other industries such as medicine, plating, electronics, as well as for coating certain space satellites. Gold occurs in very low concentrations in basic rocks, soils, and the open sea, and averages about 4.0 ng g -1 , 1.0 ng g -1 , and 0.05 µg L -1 , respectively (3)(4)(5).…”

“…In many cases, the available instrumental techniques with their various refinements do not have the required sensitivity or freedom from matrix effects and, therefore, cannot be used for direct analysis. Consequently, a need has been created to increase the relative concentration of trace metals with respect to the main components in the sample to ensure accurate and reliable measurements (5,8). The development of separation and preconcentration methods for the determination of metals at trace levels has helped to solve the problems arising in connection with metallurgy, geology, environmental research, and the life sciences (3).…”

“…These difficulties are overcome with solid phase extraction (SPE) that has advantages of reduced analyzing time, easy manipulation, lesser amount of solvent, no disposal of large quantities of organic solvents, higher concentration factor, no problem with the miscibility of solvent, easily adaptable for very selective extraction, easy automatization, avoids problems such as incomplete phase separations, less‐than‐quantitative recoveries, and emulsion formation. This technique has been widely used for separation and preconcentration of metal ions 8–17. In SPE studies, the suitable adsorbent usage is a critical factor to get high enrichment efficiency 18.…”
