Selective Pb2+ removal and electrochemical regeneration of fresh and recycled FeOOH

Abstract: Heavy metal pollution is a key environmental problem. Selectively extracting heavy metals could accomplish water purification and resource recycling simultaneously. Adsorption is a promising approach with a facile process, adaptability for the broad concentration of feed water, and high selectivity. However, the adsorption method faces challenges in synthesizing high-performance sorbents and regenerating adsorbents effectively. FeOOH is an environmentally friendly sorbent with low-cost production on a large sc… Show more

“…It should be particularly emphasized that in the O 1s spectrum presented in Figure d, the fitting peak is split into different units to confirm the bonding of the oxygen species, where peaks at 531.2, 531.9, and 533.4 eV correspond to the lattice oxygen, hydroxy, and physical absorption water at or near the surface, respectively. The combination of XRD and XPS results can confirm that FeNi bimetallic hydroxides are successfully obtained. …”

“…[5][6][7] In general, electrochemical applications for ferrous materials are of increasing interest both in the literature and society. For example, they have been used in ion sorption processes for the selective removal of Pb 2+ by Lei et al 8 However, the long-term stability of iron-containing electrodes is restricted by the volume expansions of iron by switching process, leading to a fracturing of the electrodes. 9 To overcome this issue, homogeneous distributions of the iron oxide crystallites, e.g.…”
