Selective and Accurate Detection of Nitrate in Aquaculture Water with Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) Using Gold Nanoparticles Decorated with β-Cyclodextrins

et al.

Abstract: A surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) method for measuring nitrate nitrogen in aquaculture water was developed using a substrate of β-cyclodextrin-modified gold nanoparticles (SH-β-CD@AuNPs). Addressing the issues of low sensitivity, narrow linear range, and relatively poor selectivity of single metal nanoparticles in the SERS detection of nitrate nitrogen, we combined metal nanoparticles with cyclodextrin supramolecular compounds to prepare a AuNPs substrate enveloped by cyclodextrin, which exhibits ultr… Show more

“…Through noncovalent interactions, supramolecular chemistry unites components with different structures and functionalities [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 ], enabling the construction of dynamically reversible smart composites [ 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ]. Increasing attention has been given to intelligent supramolecular structures formed by host–guest interactions, particularly for their stimuli-responsive properties and expansive application potential.…”

“…The existing nitrate detection methods mainly include optical methods and electrochemical methods. Although optical methods have a low lower limit of detection and high accuracy, they require the preparation of complex detection substrates to bind the target [12]. Optical methods, such as chromatography, colorimetry, and spectrometry, 2 of 12 require the regular collection of water samples for laboratory testing.…”

“…Nowadays, combining laser and ion implantation techniques [22,23], Ag/ZnO nanocomposites were applied for SERS detection of ammonium nitrate at different concentrations. Furthermore, the SERS method for measuring nitrate nitrogen in aquaculture water was developed using a substrate of β-cyclodextrin-modified gold nanoparticles (SH-β-CD@AuNPs) [24]. The femtosecond laser ablation technique was applied to fabricate silver-doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles, which were employed in surface-enhanced Raman scattering-based sensing of RDX and ammonium nitrate traces [25].…”
