Selective Adsorption of Dibenzothiophene Using Magnetic Molecularly Imprinted Polymers

Abstract: ABSTRACT:In this study, a novel and quick method for selective adsorption of dibenzothiophene (DBT) from gasoline using magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs) as the adsorbent has been employed. The MMIPs were prepared by a surface molecular imprinting technique, using Fe 3 O 4 magnetite nanoparticles as a magnetically susceptible component, DBT as template molecule, 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP) as functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as cross-linker. The synthetic MMIPs were charac… Show more

“…We obtained the following results from the data in Table : The values of K d and k of SiO 2 @MIP outclassed those of SiO 2 @NIP; this indicated that SiO 2 @MIP had the best selectivity toward DBT. The values of k ′ for the analogs increased in rank order from 4‐MDBT (4.8008) < BT (5.6397) < 4,6‐DMDBT (6.1928). Compared with other studies, , the binding selectivity of SiO 2 @MIP toward DBT was significantly enhanced. …”

“…Conventional desulfurization technologies, such as hydrodesulfurization, oxidative desulfurization, catalyst desulfurization, and biological desulfurization, have not satisfied refineries’ requirements in the deep desulfurization field . Our research group has developed several adsorbents with high recognition selectivity and binding affinity to dibenzothiophene (DBT) over structure analogs, and batch adsorption studies were carried out to investigate their adsorption behaviors . For instance, a computational simulation method was introduced to simulate the interactions between DBT and FMs in the prepolymerization mixture.…”

“…The more the meropenem molecules adsorbed onto the MeIP surface, the more solvent molecules surrounded meropenem molecules. Thus, the degree of freedom to meropenem molecules was decreased [29]. A negative value of ∆S° suggested that there was low-binding randomness at the solid-solution interface [28].…”

“…Clearly, the shapes of the adsorption isotherms are hyperbolic for DCF on the PANI-coated fabric as well as SA on the PPY-coated fabric. To predict the adsorption behavior, the most applied adsorption isotherm models (Equations ( 7) and ( 8)) were examined [42].…”
