Selective adsorption of carbon dioxide by carbonized porous aromatic framework (PAF)

Abstract: A series of carbonized PAF-1s were obtained with enhanced gas storage capacities and isosteric heats of adsorption (Q st for short). Especially, PAF-1-450 can adsorb 4.5 mmol g À1 CO 2 at 273 K and 1 bar. Moreover, it also exhibits excellent selectivity over other gases. On the basis of single component isotherm data, the dual-site Langmuir-Freundlich adsorption model-based ideal adsorption solution theory (IAST) prediction indicates that the CO 2 /N 2 adsorption selectivity is as high as 209 at a 15/85 CO 2 /… Show more

“…CTF-1-200W exhibits a steep rise at a high relative pressure (P/P 0 B 1), indicating macrospores formed between highly aggregated particles, 49 consistent with the low surface area. 50,51 Among all samples, CTF-1-100W has the highest ordered structure both in plane and interlayer. Therefore, the morphology of CTF-1-100W was observed by TEM as shown in Fig.…”

“…Furthermore, the microwave conditions have been moderated to obtain the most ordered sample and low degree of carbonisation, both of which contribute to high activity of the best polymer. 50,51 The BET specific surface area of the CTF-1-100W is around 1 m 2 g À1 , indicating that its activity can be further improved if the surface area could be improved.…”

“…[19] The choice of precursor material can affect the functionality in the resultant carbons. For instance, carbonized ZIFs have been used for supercapacitor electrodes, [20] carbonized MOFs as oxygen reduction catalysts and lithium sulfur batteries, [21] carbonized PAFs for gas storage, [22] carbonized CMPs as chemosensors, electrocatalysis, and supercapacitors, [23,24] and carbonized HCPs for benzene/ chlorobenzene vapor absorption and as a porous carbon support for oxygen reduction reactions. [25] While these materials show good performance for their respective applications, many of the microporous precursors involved costly starting materials (e.g., PAFs, many MOFs, and CMPs) or expensive catalysts for their preparation (e.g., CMPs, PAFs).…”

“…Besides the CO 2 -N 2 mixture evaluated before for nitrogen-doped carbons (e.g., with a v/v gas composition of 15/85), we also evaluated CO 2 -CH 4 mixtures characteristic of natural gas upgrading processes (e.g., with v/v gas compositions of 15/85 and 30/70). In terms of IAST predictions, our carbons were in range to the best carbons recently described [101,102] and only some organic frameworks have been capable of providing further efficiency [103][104][105].…”
