Selection of C-Type Filters for Reactive Power Compensation and Filtration of Higher Harmonics Injected into the Transmission System by Arc Furnaces

Abstract: This article presents a method for selecting the elements of a C-type filter working with a conventional LC-type filter for compensating reactive power and filtering out higher harmonics generated by arc furnaces and ladle furnaces. The study was conducted in a steel mill supplied by a 110 kV transmission system, where higher harmonic currents and nonlinear loads were measured. A series of computer simulations were performed under various operating conditions, and an algorithm for selecting the parameters of a… Show more

“…higher than seventh order. The tuning frequency is selected as high as possible considering the load harmonic contents to explore the C-type filter attenuation performance contrary to previous works focused merely on resonance damping effect [19,21]. The C-type filter current is shown in Figure 24b in which the reactive power injection is 78.5 VAR, close to half the required reactive power by the load.…”

“…Rest multi-pulse rectification circuits based on parallel connection of6 th -pulse groups. It should be noted that the increase in the quality of consumed electric power by increasing the pulsation of rectification, leads to a significant increase in the price of the product and a decrease in its reliability (Lange and Redlarski, 2020).…”

“…In [51][52][53][54], it is computed through the filter quality factor. In [55][56][57][58][59][60][61], its computation is more complex taking into account various parameters, such as the grid short-circuit power and impedance, filter losses and efficiency, the damping of resonances, the harmonics amplification, etc. The case studies presenting the consequences of the wrong selection of PHFs damping resistance or tuning frequency are rare in the literature.…”
