Selection of an Appropriate Mechanized Mining Technical Process for Thin Coal Seam Mining

Abstract: Mechanized mining technical process (MMTP) related to the control method of the shearer is a vital process in thin coal seam mining operations. An appropriate MMTP is closely related to safety, productivity, labour intensity, and efficiency. Hence, the evaluation of alternative MMTP is an important part of the mining design. Several parameters should be considered in MMTP evaluation, so the evaluation is complex and must be compliant with a set of criteria. In this paper, two multiple criteria decision-making … Show more

“…Selective coal mining makes it possible to solve a number of problems arising during stoping within coal seams which thickness is less than a meter (Glamheden & Hökmark, 2010;Fomychov, 2012;Kovalevs'ka, Symanovych, & Fomychov, 2013). However, the key initial problem of the method is significant amount of rock, being undercut, which was planned to hoist to the surface originally (Dayang, 2013;Wang & Tu, 2015;Hu, Li, Hu, Zhou, & Yue, 2018;Li et al, 2018). Nevertheless, the development of the mined-out area backfilling with the use of the undercut rock has helped solve the problem.…”

“…The selection of technical parameters of machines and equipment is important due to the arduous conditions in which they will work. It is possible to evaluate correctly selected machines through active monitoring of their operating parameters and analysis of operating conditions [33][34][35][36][37][38][39]. One of the main sources of hazards causing accidents at work in mining plants is the technical infrastructure and, in particular, machinery and technical equipment.…”

“…Currently, theoretical research and engineering practice about the mining technology and equipment for thin seams have been carried out at home and abroad (Fang et al, 2008; Guo, 2013; Liu, 2011; LV, 2009; Wang, 2009, 2016; Xu et al, 2012; Yuan, 2011). As a result, mechanized and automatic mining is the ideal path and the inevitable way to improve production efficiency and reduce labor intensity for thin seam (MAO et al, 2011; Wang and Tu, 2015; Yuan, 2017). However, automatic mining can be achieved only in suitable conditions, such as coal thickness changed very little or without geological structures.…”
