Selected Tribological Properties and Vibrations in the Base Resonance Zone of the Polymer Composite Used in the Aviation Industry

Abstract: The revolution in the global market of composite materials is evidenced by their increasing use in such segments as the transport, aviation, and wind industries. The innovative aspect of this research is the methodology approach, based on the simultaneous analysis of mechanical and tribological loads of composite materials, which are intended for practical use in the construction of aviation parts. Simultaneously, the methodology allows the composition of the composites used in aviation to be optimized. Theref… Show more

“…The other half underwent abrading in the presence of water. Water was introduced into the research due to its ability to significantly accelerate the process of tribological damage to composites, which results from the conducted preliminary testing and from the literature analysis (e.g., [ 3 , 45 , 46 , 47 ]). The tribometer, used during the tests described in this article, allowed for a sound simulation of the impact of different types of an abradant on the material surface.…”

“…Multilayered composites are popular because of their low weight, high strength and high stiffness [ 1 ]. Their low weight is important in many applications; for example, an aircraft with a lower weight would be more fuel efficient [ 2 ]. The use of composite materials in the aviation industry has significantly increased in recent years and composites now constitute more than 25% of the Airbus A380 and 50% of the Boeing 787 aircraft [ 3 ].…”

“…Composite materials have long been used due to [ 13 , 14 ]: good constructional properties, small specific gravity, easy moulding of products (also those of large dimensions), diversity of processing techniques, possibility of differentiating the properties by modifying the use of intermediate inputs and processing techniques. …”
