To study the synergistic stabilization mechanism of SiO2 nanoparticles and anionic surfactants during foam fracturing, inorganic SiO2 nanoparticles and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were used as a foam stabilizer and foaming agent, respectively, to prepare foam fluids. Foam stability was analyzed by evaluating the foam volume, half-life, and morphology. The synergistic stabilization mechanism of SDS and SiO2 nanoparticles was studied by measuring and analyzing the surface tension, contact angle, and bubble diameter. The results indicated that, at a suitable SDS concentration, the surface activity of the nanoparticles can be altered to enhance the adsorption of SiO2 nanoparticles at the gas–liquid interface and, consequently, improve foam stability. However, excess SDS caused a decrease in foam stability. Upon increasing the SDS concentration, the contact angle between the SiO2 nanoparticles and water decreased gradually, and the SiO2 nanoparticles became increasingly hydrophilic. The average bubble diameter of the SiO2–SDS foam systems decreases with the increase in time, and the foam system with the smaller change trend of the bubble diameter is more stable. Moreover, with the increase in time, the nanoparticles adsorbed by the ruptured bubbles are transferred to the surrounding of the bubbles that are not ruptured, increasing their liquid film thickness and improving the stability of the foam system. These results provide an experimental basis for the application of the nanoparticle in foam stabilization during coal seam fracturing.

The strength and rigidity of proppant and coal are quite different. Proppant is easily embedded in coal, resulting in the decrease of fracture aperture and conductivity. The mechanism of proppant embedded in the coal fracture surface needs further study. In this paper, through theoretical analysis and experimental research of single proppant embedded, the proppant embedded law is analyzed from macro and micro aspects. The damage factor of coal surface is introduced, the damage model of the whole process of single proppant pressure embedded is established, and the mechanism of coal fracture surface embedded pit and cracks is revealed. The results show that, from the center of the contact surface to the outside, the surface failure forms of coal fracture are pressure failure, tensile-shear failure, and tensile failure. The proppant is embedded in the coal fracture surface to form four areas: central compaction area, layered fracture area, fracture development area, and original state area. During the energy release of proppant embedded in coal, the energy of proppant is released first and the energy of coal is released later. Greater than 3 times the contact radius, the influence of single proppant on the coal fracture surface can be ignored.

To solve the problem of unstable sealing in the sealing section of a gassy, soft coal seam, a seal reinforcement material for gas extraction boreholes was developed, which was mainly made of ordinary Portland cement and blended with additives such as aluminium powder, quicklime, and gypsum. Firstly, in order to obtain the necessary expansion and compressive strength of reinforcement material, key factors affecting the material properties were determined. Key factors affecting the expansion properties and compressive strength of reinforcing materials were investigated by a single-factor test. Moreover, according to the central combination (Box–Behnken) experimental principle and response surface analysis (RSA), the interactions of various factors on the expansion and compressive strength were determined, and the optimal experimental conditions were acquired. The experimental results indicated that the optimum ratio of the material was 2% for gypsum and 0.52% for aluminium powder and quicklime at the experimental temperature of 20°C, and the ratio of water to material was 0.6. Finally, in the N1103 working face of No. 3 coal seam of Yuwu coal mine, Luan Group, China, the sealing property of the reinforcement material was validated, and the problem of hole collapse at the borehole orifice was solved (resulting in a gas concentration 2.48 times that measured before borehole reinforcement), and the gas drainage effect was enhanced.
