Selected Properties of Cementitous Composites with Portland Cements and Blended Portland Cements in Extreme Conditions

Abstract: The paper is focused on research of physico-mechanical properties of concretes with Portland-limestone cement, Blastfurnace cement and Portland-composite cement in comparisom with concrete with Portland Cement CEM I. Following physico-mechanical properties of concretes exposed to extreme conditions were tested: compressive strength, flexural strength, tensille splitting strength, velocity of propagation of ultrasonic pulse, dynamic elasticity modulus and density of hardened concrete. Following environments wer… Show more

“…Generally, pozzolanic additives retard initial evolution of mechanical properties but they provide very interesting values of long-term properties in relation to durability; predominantly in concrete technology is further application of various pozzolanic additive solutions to ensure suitable rheology, mechanical parameters, and durability properties presented by frost and chemical resistance [31].…”

“…Bulk density of studied composites was investigated on the base of the actual weight and accurate dimensions of specimens. Changes of bulk density are related to structural transformation and mineralogical changes during heating [31].…”

“…It is crucial to filter measured values with respect to influence of high temperatures -most of the commonly available measuring devices are not adapted to high temperatures and therefore it is necessary to verify data with respect to reference values. The test specimens can be evaluated from the point of view of physical-mechanical properties (comprising boreholes in the material and destructive testing of the materials 2 as well as non-destructive testing of material parameters) 3 and their changes caused by elevated temperature. Samples can also be used for studying the changes in the microstructure and products of hydration after applying different temperatures.…”

“…High dosage of active additives in NSC (normal strength concrete) causes a decrease of pH in hardened concrete and a loss of natural protection of steel reinforcement too, but with the use of pozzolanic additives following reaction providing substantial sealing effect of new hydrates, so carbonation is not accelerated by increased permeability. Unfortunately in the case of HPC low permeability means low resistance to fire [4] and extreme temperature loading where the material is damaged by escaping steam, other gases performing in concrete, or by formation of frost.…”
