Selected problems of image data preprocessing used to perform examination in Parkinson’s disease

Abstract: Engineering support in the field of distinguishing Parkinson's disease from other diseases, diagnosing its progression and monitoring the effectiveness of drug treatment is nowadays implemented by way of recording and analyzing equipment fitted with motion sensors. The time series they provide enable quantitative evaluation of a set of symptoms describing daily activities and motor abilities of patients. The paper presents the preliminary results of fundamental research, which based on known medical observatio… Show more

“…However, the work presents rather a classification of signals because the data pool containing 471 instances was obtained from only 13 patients and 6 healthy cases. In 2020 we also used one camera for image acquisition and presented pilot studies devoted to detection of color markers attached to subjects's fingers in order to demonstrate the possibility of using spectral analysis for quantitative descriptions of the tapping signals [13]. The most advanced paper concerning the concept of video-based system to measure various types of movement assessed in Parkinson's disease, including finger tapping, was published by Monje et.…”

“…In 2020, we also proposed the use of objective image processing techniques to assess face images recorded during a clinical trial [28]. The procedure of data acquisition used in facial masking examination assumed the registration of natural facial expression and posed facial expression uniform for all patients.…”
