Abstract: The article summarizes information about seismic network in the Urals and Western Siberia region, describes processing technique, presents short analysis of seismic activity for 2018–2019. Seismic network capability is shown for whole territory under control. It was found that about 82 % of registered events are explosions in mines and open pits, 74 events are natural and 76 are induced ones. For the strongest induced events, variants of source parameters obtained by different agencies are shown.

The accident was registered in the Zuevka District of the Kirov Region in the upper reaches of the Cheptsa River on December 26, 2023. The purpose of this work is to analyze seismic data obtained by regional seismic stations, calculate the main parameters of the seismic event happened on December 26, 2023, and determine the seismotectonic position of the epicentre. The seismic event was recorded by seismic stations of the Komi Republic, Bashkortostan, the Perm Territory, Arkhangelsk, Kirov, Orenburg, Samara, Saratov, and Sverdlovsk Regions. The event was analyzed using wave forms of 24 stations with epicentral distances from 81 to 1352 km, azimuthal environment – 18–359.5°, GAP=80°. The instrumental processing gave the following parameters of the December 26 earthquake: coordinates 58.4843N, 50.794E, origin time t0=01:44:36 (UTC), depth h=4 km, energy class according to T.G. Rautian Kp=10.2/4, local magnitude ML=3.6/5, Ms=2.7/5, error ellipse: Azmajor=60°, Rminor=4.5 km, Rmajor=5.5 km. The earthquake is tectonic and belongs to the Kirov-Kazhim aulacogen of the Volga-Ural anteclise. The area is known for serious historical earthquakes; instrumental disturbances are also regularly recorded here. The previous activation of the aulacogen occurred in 2020, also in its central flank. The occurrence of seismic events indicates that it is a seismically active structure.

In 2023, regional seismic stations recorded 25 seismic events in the Vorkuta coal industrial district of the Komi Republic, with a local magnitude ML from 1.8 to 2.8. A significant contribution to the detection of weak, ML ≤ 2, events was made by data obtained from the temporary seismic station of the IG FRC Komi SC UB RAS, installed as part of expeditionary work in the summer of 2023 in the Polar Urals. Among them the seismic event on August 1, 2023, which had a macroseismic effect, is of particular interest. Residents of several districts of Vorkuta felt tremors similar to an earthquake. Seismic records from 5 stations with epicentral distances from 40 to 1070 km were processed. The following parameters of the epicenter were obtained: t0 = 18:39:07, 67.529N, 64.001E, h = 0 km, Rminor = 3.9 km, Rmajor = 6.7 km, AzMajor = 90°, Kp = 9.0, ML = 2.8, Ms = 2.35. The instrumental epicenter of the event is located in Vorkuta, near the mine field of the Vorkuta mine. We classified the seismic event as a rock burst. Macroseismic intensity calculated in accordance with the Seismic intensity scale-2017 using 57 questionnaires and 163 definitions of sensor categories was I0 = 4.73 ± 0.02. The calculated value of the macroseismic depth of the source was H = 0.5 ± 0.4 km, which corresponds to the instrumental definition and to the range of depths of mine workings of the Vorkuta coal deposit.
