Abstract:An open ground storey (OGS) is a sort of building plan in which the ground floor or lower levels of a structure include open spaces that are not surrounded by walls or columns, such as parking areas, commercial spaces, or lobbies. OGS buildings are known to be at risk of structural damage and collapse during an earthquake due to a lack of stiffness and strength in the open ground storey, which underestimates inter-level drift and force demand in ground storey columns.
