Segmenting the Optic Disc in Retinal Images using Thresholding

Abstract: Segmentation of an optic disk location is a very essential task for retinal image analysis. Most of the pervious method uses the principal component analysis method, which are computationally complex. This paper presents a simple and semi automatic approach for segmentation of the optic disc in retinal images using thresholding and boundary extraction. First, the true colour Retinal images are converted to gray image and then image is enhanced using histogram equalization. This improves the efficiency of the c… Show more

“…Here we have work with some segmentation and classification technique to segment the optic disc and classifies the image based on their feature selection of the image. In this paper, we conclude that the thresholding technique is best for segment the specific region in the retinal image [13], as well as SVM classifier is best for classifies the image based upon their category [4].These two techniques are very helpful to ophthalmologist to glaucoma assessment as efficient manner.…”

“…A slightly different approach was taken by C. Pereira, L. Gonçalves, and M. Ferreira by using the Ant colony optimization algorithm [7] to localize the optic disk. A simple and efficient approach for segmentation of the optic disc by thresholding the morphologically connected regions and boundary extraction was done in "Segmenting the Optic Disk in Retinal Images using Bi-Histogram Equalization and Thresholding the Connected Regions" [8].…”
