Segmented cladding fiber fabricated in silica-based glass

Abstract: We report fabrication of a segmented cladding fiber (SCF) in silica-based glass. An SCF with a uniform core of pure silica and cladding of periodically arranged pure silica and fluorine-doped silica in an angular direction has been fabricated by using the stack-and-draw technique. The fabricated fiber has been characterized by capturing its near-field intensity pattern at 633 nm wavelength. The number of modes has been estimated from the captured near-field intensity pattern by using neural network analysis. A… Show more

“…It's important to mention a similar structure with two layers of high-index rings has been fabricated using the MCVD process in conjunction with the rod-in-tube method [40]. The silica-glass-based segmented cladding fiber has also been fabricated [41]. Therefore, the proposed fiber is possible to be manufactured with current-state-of-the-art fabrication technology.…”

“…Previously, SCFs have been fabricated using materials such as poly (methyl methacrylate) [24][25][26] and other types of polymer composites [27]. Silica-based glass SCF fabrication with four segments, in which the interfaces of segments with undoped and doped material bubbles have been generated, has been reported [28]. A hexagonal-wing SCF fabricated with silica by applying the PIT technique [19] with alumina and silica powder has also been reported.…”
