The discourse of humor in interpersonal interactions involves a complex mechanism. The creation of utterances containing humor in communication is not a simple phenomenon; it encompasses intricate mechanisms occurring between the speaker and the interlocutor. In addition to emerging in social interactions, humor can also be encountered in both print and electronic media. Among the electronic media, television is the most widely accessed by the public.Currently, television offers internet television services, or online television, allowing its programs to be enjoyed by internet users. This research delves into the forms, techniques, and themes of humor content in variety show programs broadcasted by NET TV and TVRI. The aim of this research is to describe patterns and purposes for delivering humor on both television stations. The method employed in this study is qualitative-descriptive, and data collection utilizes the Krippendorff technique.The findings of this research indicate distinctions between government-owned and privately-owned television stations, particularly in program packaging. Government-owned television stations package their programs with the cultural backdrop of a specific ethnic group in Indonesia and highlight stories from that group. Examples include programs like "Gangsa Ngetrend" and "Ludruk Kirun CS," which showcase Javanese culture, and the program "Ga'de Ga'de," which features stories from South Sulawesi culture. Government-owned television stations also address education by packaging it in the format of stand-up comedy and humor. Conversely, private-owned television stations package their programs primarily for entertainment purposes.

Much of the environmental communication literature follows the consensus-building perspective and thus explores how to communicate climate change in ways that can diffuse politico-ideological conflict. My paper, on the other hand, builds on the critical debate approach—which asserts that the depoliticization of climate change acts as a barrier to transformative socio-ecological change—and argues that animated parody offers a powerful rhetorical tool to re-politicize climate change. I develop the paper’s argument through a case study of the Rick and Morty episode “A Rickconvenient Truth”—a parodical take on the 1990s children’s TV show Captain Planet and the Planeteers. By applying reflexive thematic analysis to a dataset of >7,600 Reddit user comments, I reveal that the episode prompts fans to question “standard” ways of thinking about climate change and deliberate radical alternatives for combatting the ecological crisis.

The article aims to address the research gap in the field of environmental communication by integrating the advances in emotional influence sciences to understand the mechanisms and pathways via social media by which emotions impact pro-environmental behavior. This research investigates how environmental communication can integrate research's results to design a more effective communication strategy that leads to environmental actions. Hence, the methodology of the article is an exploratory review of previous research on emotion in crisis and environmental communication, particularly on the role of social media and internet memes in promoting pro-environmental behavior through emotions and emotional influence. The findings are organized into three themes. First, we present the theory of emotional influence as a lens that can shed light on the underlying mechanisms in social media that awaken users' sentiments to modify or rectify their environmental behavior as well as entice their engagement in environmental preservation. Next, the main factors affecting emotional contagion in environmental communication are analyzed. Finally, we examine the empirical evidence of pro-environmental communication strategies that were successful under emotional contagion mechanisms. The article concludes that emotional influence by internet memes is a proper strategy, particularly for new generations, in crisis and environmental communication. This research contributes to science by highlighting the significant role of emotional influence and internet memes in environmental communication, emphasizing their potential to influence public attitudes and behaviors towards environmental issues, and providing a comprehensive understanding of how these factors can be leveraged to design effective communication strategies that lead to environmental actions, offering valuable insights for researchers and practitioners in the field of environmental communication and crisis management.
