Seeing and thinking in pictures: A review of visual information processing

Abstract: Constructive and ecological theories of perception raise questions about whether visual perception is inherently data-driven (bottom-up) or interpreted in terms of higherorder cognitions (top-down). Analogies between these theoretical perspectives and the two visual systems involved in visual perception (the dorsal and ventral stream) suggest that the literature on visual information processing can be organized around two types of processes: object processing and spatial processing. Object processing involves … Show more

“…However, the temporal visual effects of baby robots do not significantly contribute to the subjective norms (family and peers) and perceived behavioral control (finance and energy). This result in the current study is consistent with prior research: the temporal visual reaction towards stimuli would be more associated with individual cognition and attitude formation, rather than with long-term social cognition and control beliefs [66,67]. Subjective norms are the cultural products of acceptable group conducts [68,69], indeed, they are formed in the context of society and culture, representing informal knowledge that governs the conduct of members in the society [70].…”

“…Typologies or taxonomies of visual design cues are discussed in a variety of research domains: neuroscience, psychology, computer science (information visualization), marketing, (video) advertising, and online visual merchandising (VDM) [ 7 , 16 , 50 , 51 , 52 , 53 , 54 , 55 ]. Although differently categorized or defined, these typologies often present more or less the same type of visual design cues.…”

“…In this paper we use the typologies of Adaval et al [ 50 ] and Sample et al [ 7 ] to structure the literature. Other existing typologies are definitely valuable, but more limited or specific in scope.…”
