Abstract:To achieve sufficiently high electron concentrations at reasonable temperatures for MHD applications, a general approach using seeding compounds rather than elements is discussed together with an extensive survey of the literature. Several examples are given in which the ionization potential of a compound is lower than the elements composing the compound. A trend in the ionization potential to decrease with decreasing valency unsaturation is noted, and some evidence for this is given.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
