Seed priming with polyethylene glycol induces antioxidative defense and metabolic regulation of rice under nano-ZnO stress

Abstract: The present study was carried out to investigate the beneficial impact of seed priming with polyethylene glycol (PEG) under different concentrations of zinc oxide nanoparticles (nano-ZnO), i.e., 0, 250, 500, and 750 mg L(-1) in two cultivars of Oryza sativa (Zhu Liang You 06 and Qian You No. 1). Physiological parameters were improved by priming with 30 % PEG in both cultivars under stress treatments. Seed priming with 30 % PEG improved α-amylase activities and total soluble sugar contents of both cultivars und… Show more

“…However, in relation to T1 (treated seed, 5 mg/L) and T9 (combination of treated seed + foliar spray of 25mg/L Zn nanoparticles) slightly increase the sugar content of the canola varieties, which was (5%) for Faisal canola and (23%) for canola variety Shiralee respectively Fig 2A and 2B. Our results are in agreement with [45] who stated increase sugar contents in rice seedling on exposure to ZnO NPs application. Proline content (PC).…”

“…For further investigation regarding the potential role of GABA priming to alleviate the oxidative stress induced by salinity and osmotic stress, the antioxidant enzymes, i.e., SOD, CAT and APX were measured according the method of Sheteiwy et al [88]. GR and total soluble sugars were measured according the method of Sheteiwy et al [89]. The starch content and total soluble proteins were measured according to the method of Sheteiwy et al [90].…”

“…Seed priming has been frequently used to improve seed germination and seedling development and can also improve plant growth in a wide range of environmental conditions [30][31][32][33][34][35]. As a priming agent, humic acid (HA) are usually used as a kind of hormone that promotes plant growth rather than improving the chemical or the physical conditions of the soil.…”
