Sedimentation in Cayuga Lake, New York1

Abstract: The sediments in the southern half of Cayuga Lake are generally banded, The couplets arc ca. 2 cm thick at a depth of 1.5 m in the sediment and contain finer laminae approximately 1 mm thick. Major bands can be correlated over a distance of I9 km and apparently correspond to recorded periods of unusually rapid runoff or high lake levels.
