Security Enhancement for Real-Time Routing Protocol in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: Wireless sensor network is a wireless ad hoc network that consists of very large number of tiny sensor nodes communicating with each other with limited power and memory constrain. WSN demands real-time routing which requires messages to be delivered within their end-to-end deadlines (packet lifetime). Since many sensor networks will be deployed in critical applications, security is essential. Recently, many realtime routing protocols have been proposed, but none is designed with security as a goal. This paper … Show more

“…The sensor network is typically deployed to monitor environmental and critical applications for some specific purpose such as to detect temperature changes and battlefield surveillance (Ali and Fisal, 2008). In densely deployed WSNs, routing is crucial to send data between sensor nodes and the base station (BS).…”

“…Ali and Fisal [5] improve the existing routing protocol SRTLD [2]; which depends on optimal forwarding decision taking the link quality, packet delay time and the remaining power of next hop sensor nodes into account; by enhancing its security using encryption with authentication of the packet header. The proposed security measures counteracts HELLO flooding and selective forwarding attacks.…”

“…It proposes a novel multipath routing schema which regards forward error correction (FEC) coding. Real Time Load Distributed Routing Protocol (RTLD) (Ali et al, 2008) aims link reliability and packet velocity through one-hop while providing energy efficiency in real time communication. In RTLD, the forwarding node is determined via optimal values of velocity, called PRR and the remaining power.…”
