Secure optical communication using a quantum alarm

Abstract: Optical fibre networks are advancing rapidly to meet growing traffic demands. Security issues, including attack management, have become increasingly important for optical communication networks because of the vulnerabilities associated with tapping light from optical fibre links. Physical layer security often requires restricting access to channels and periodic inspections of link performance. In this paper, we report how quantum communication techniques can be utilized to detect a physical layer attack. We pr… Show more

“…64 Measuring squeezed light requires advanced detectors and these detectors require to be specially engineered for ultra-low electronic noise to identify the weak quantum features of light. 65 Developing this capability could significantly boost the processing speed of emergent information technologies like optical computers and light-based communications. 66 Furthermore, the higher bandwidth of the detector can result in much faster performance with calculations and information transmission.…”

“…For example, the target detector in the photoelectric tracking system has a considerable constant measurement delay. The photoelectric tracking systems are extensively applied in target tracking, aerospace, astronomical observations, and quantum laser communications that have made major breakthroughs in recent years [20][21][22]. The constant measurement delay is one of the most important factors hindering the improvement of the system tracking performance.…”
