Secukinumab and infectious adverse effects: A real‐life experience of 63 psoriasis patients

Abstract: shorter turnaround time. Hence, skin biopsies for NTM PCRs should be performed early if Mycobacterium abscessus is a possibility or if there is failure of response to oral antibiotics. In conclusion, we highlight that 28% of cutaneous NTM infection occurs at the cubital forearm. The involvement of the cubital forearm should be recognised and raise the index of suspicion for NTM infections. We emphasise the emergence and importance of Mycobacterium abscessus as a pathogen and recommend aids to its early identifi… Show more

“…KEGG pathways of infectious diseases: parasitic and viral were significantly increased after secukinumab therapy in psoriasis. Actually, infection is the most reported side effect of secukinumab therapy, which is in accordance with our data on gut microbiota (Ergun et al, 2021 ). It should be given more attention when using secukinumab treatment.…”

Actually, infection is the most reported side effect of secukinumab therapy, which is in accordance with our data in gut microbiota [32]. “…There has been a similar report of NTM infection of the cubital fossa in an elderly patient with history of topical corticosteroid application. 4 Finally, we emphasise the emergence of Mycobacterium abscessus, with its multi-drug resistance pattern 5 and potential need for intravenous therapy or surgical intervention. Although Mycobacterium abscessus is a fast growing mycobacterium, cultures had a turnaround time of 4-6 weeks in our cases, longer than the traditionally understood timing of 2 weeks.…”
