Secretion of Type IV Collagen by Keratinocytes of Human Adult

Abstract: Secretion of type IV collagen by keratinocytes was studied by anti-type IV collagen immunoglobulin in pure keratinocyte culture of the human adult. The cultivated keratinocytes secreted type IV collagen into the space between the cell growth and the underlying fixed film of human skin collagen type I. The secreted collagen was accumulated on the cell surface to form junction structures.

“…However, a nonscarring (inflammatory) phase is seen in EBA, and only 1 case of nonscarring EBA has been reported [12]. Then, a few cases of EBA with esophageal involvement were described [13, 14, 15, 16].…”

“…In our experience, we also obtained very effective healing of chronic skin ulcers with cultured epidermal allografts [4], The wounds healed by cell migration from the wound edge. It is also known that keratinocytes secrete a variety of cytokines including trans forming growth factors [12J, fibronectin [13], interleukin [14], keratinocyte-derived growth factor [15] and type IV collagen [16]. So the healing of our patient's wounds might be ascribed to the action of unknown cytokines or basement components elaborated by the cultured epidermal allo grafts.…”
