“…In the primitive cell of SCOB there were two B(1)O 3 and four B(2)O 3 triangles and two SmO 6 , four Ca(1)O 6 , and four Ca(2)O 6 octahedra. 13 From the data of the bond lengths, the (BO 3 ) 3− clusters form rigid BO 3 triangles, connecting the quasi-rigid Ca(1)O 6 octahedra and distorted SmO 6 and Ca (2) also has three Raman-active vibrational modes as a nondegenerate symmetric X-Y stretching (Ј 1 ), a doubly degenerate symmetric Y-X-Y stretching (Ј 2 ), and a triply degenerate symmetric Y-X-Y bending (Ј 5 ) mode. It is clear that all the degenerate vibrational modes belonging to the triangles and octahedra are sure to split into uni-modes in SCOB due to the Cm symmetry.…”

“…, and Nd-and Yb-doped YCOB and GCOB, [3][4][5][6] have attracted much attention. RE calcium oxyborate is attractive due to its advantages of a broad transparency range, a short ultraviolet absorption edge, a low laser threshold, and a high damage threshold.…”

“…Some borates are also excellent as a laser material for miniature lasers such as rare earth ͑RE͒ calcium oxyborate and their solid solutions. [11][12][13][14][15][16][17] ions are situated in this crystal field with m symmetry, lacking inversion symmetry. This condition increases the prob-ability of the parity-forbidden f → f transitions.…”

“…8 , 47.4 ) and (90 , 46 ) by using a pulsed Q-switched Nd : YAG laser [10]. For YCOB crystal, Jang et al [11] achieved 35% of SHG conversion efficiency in 25 mm long YCOB crystal along PM direction in the XZ main plane when the input power density is about 60 MW/cm 2 . Chen et al [12] calculated d ij for the first time and concluded that the optimum PM direction was out of the main plane.…”
