Second-harmonic generation from metallic arrays of rectangular holes

Abstract: The generation process of second-harmonic radiation from holes periodically arranged on a metal surface is investigated. Three main modulating factors affecting the far-field distribution and the transmission efficiency are identified: the near-field distribution at the wavelength of the driving source (fundamental harmonic), how second-harmonic light couples to the diffraction orders of the lattice, and its propagation properties inside the holes. It is shown that light generated at the second harmonic can ex… Show more

“…Contando con los métodos adecuados para calcular las propiedades microscópicas en metamateriales, es posible también analizar la parte no lineal de los mismos. Típicamente, se ha buscado generar fenómenos no lineales en materiales que por sí mismos no son capaces de hacerlo, basándose simplemente en la modificación de su estructura a un nivel macroscópico (Brudny et al, 2003;Rodrigo et al, 2015;Krasnok et al, 2018). En este sentido, podemos mencionar nanoestructuración de películas de plata.…”

“…These nanohole arrays provide high versatility in designing their linear response, consisting of both localized (LSP), propagating (SPP) and cavity modes. Several works have investigated nonlinear enhancement in metallic nanohole arrays [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21] , however, not many studied third-order processes, and even fewer considered the question of optimizing these processes.…”

“…Furthermore, Bragg resonances of propagating surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) were also optimized to attain highest conversion efficiency [17][18][19]. A few works have investigated both LSP and SPP resonances at the fundamental or harmonic wavelength on nonlinear optical response of metasurfaces [20][21][22][23][24]. However, there is still a question about what combination of LSP and SPP should be used to achieve the greatest conversion efficiency.…”
