Seborrheic Keratosis with Compound Nevus, Junctional Nevus and Basal Cell Carcinoma in the Same Lesion

Abstract: Seborrheic keratosis can be associated with different neoplasms such as basal cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas and melanomas. We describe an unusual case of a man who presented with a brown plaque on his back. The clinical diagnosis was melanoma. Histopathologic examination of the lesion revealed four neoplasms: a compound nevus, a junctional nevus, a superficial basal cell carcinoma and a seborrheic keratosis. Although this association most likely represents a chance phenomenon, we discuss the possib… Show more

“…Melanocytic naevus has been reported as occurring associated with several different tumour types (1,3). The association of a melanocytic naevus arising contiguously with or adjacent to seborrhoeic keratosis is, however, uncommon (1,(4)(5)(6)(7). We report here a patient who presented with a pigmented macule that she had had for a long time, and which had recently increased in size and darkened.…”

“…Seborrheic keratosis, basal cell carcinoma, dermatofibroma are the most commonly found lesions in nonmelanocytic components of collision lesions, while the most frequently found combination is that of basal cell carcinoma and nevi (3,4). A subtype of collision tumors, where tumor is composed of different forms of melanocytes is called a combined nevus.…”

“…6 Nos tumores de colisão, em geral, discute-se se as associações existentes são fortuitas, se provêm de uma mesma linha celular ou se as alterações epiteliais ou do estroma provocadas por um tumor desencadeiam o desenvolvimento do segundo. [9][10][11] Pela história fornecida pela doente o histiocitofibroma terá surgido posteriormente ao nevo azul, pelo que o histiocitofibroma poderá ser consequência do fenómeno de resposta às alterações do estroma provocadas pelo nevo azul.…”
