“…In this station, it was found the presence of 18 species and the highest value of species richness in July and December (with 7 species/sample) and its higher richness species could be notice by the low similarity among the samples of the cluster groups (22%) showing a richer diversity of foraminifera than other portions of the channel, with epifaunal and infaunal species, as found in Ubatuba Bay, a marine environment (Burone and Pires-Vanin 2006). Even with the high freshwater discharge of the Itapanhaú River (Eichler et al 2007, Passos et al 2017, this station showed the occurrence of calcareous hyaline and porcelaneous species such as A. tepida and Quinqueloculina patagonica, and also the presence of Pararotalia sarminetoi which is related to marine The porcelaneous genus Quinqueloculina is also associated with normal to hypersaline marine salinities, high water clarity and good circulation (Ishman et al 1997;Debenay et al 2001;Eichler et al 2007;Raposo et al 2018;Belart et al 2019). The higher frequency of aerobic marine conditions (C/S > 5) at this station confirm the intense marine water exchange.…”

“…9, 10; appendix 3) are commonly found in living assemblages of Brazilian coastal shallow waters (e.g. Delavy et al, 2016;Martins et al, 2016 a, b;Raposo et al, 2016Raposo et al, , 2018Belart et al, 2017Belart et al, , 2019Duleba et al, 2018). However, in the lower sedimentary layers (240-229 cm), in addition to a relatively high foraminiferal density and slight increase of diversity, the presence of Ammonia parkinsoniana, bolivinids and buliminids species (Figs.…”

“…Nonetheless, in recent decades, the number of studies using foraminifera as bioindicators in tropical areas has increased, which a focus on the foraminiferal response to natural (Debenay et al 2001;Duleba and Debenay 2003;Laut et al 2016a;Belart et al 2019) and anthropogenic (Vilela et al 2004(Vilela et al , 2011Teodoro et al 2009;Eichler et al 2015;Laut et al 2016bLaut et al , 2021aBelart et al 2018;Raposo et al 2018;Pregnolato et al 2018;Martins et al 2020) environmental stresses. A few studies addressing the effect of trace element pollution on the benthic foraminiferal community have also been performed (Debenay and Fernandez 2009;Lacuna and Alviro 2014;Martínez-Colón et al 2009, 2018ab;Sánchez et al 2020).…”
