“…Larvae were kept at 16·8 ± 0·4 ∘ C (mean ± s.d. ), similar to the water temperature during the main hatched period in the wild (Elisio et al, , 2015. Water temperature was recorded every hour using waterproof electronic data-loggers (www.ibuttonlink.com).…”

“…The plasma levels of oestradiol (E 2 ) in females and 11‐ketotestosterone (11‐KT) in males were measured by an enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using commercial kits, following the manufacturer´s protocols (Cayman Chemicals). These kits were validated previously in pejerrey (Elisio et al, ; Elisio, Chalde, et al, ). Serum samples were extracted with diethyl ether and suspended in their initial volume with ELISA buffer.…”

“…This fish inhabits shallow lakes, which are characterized by high thermal fluctuation and not having stable thermal stratification (Elisio, Vitale, & Miranda, ). The pejerrey is a multiple spawner releasing successive egg batches from late winter to late spring, and even during late summer and early autumn if the environmental conditions are permissive (Calvo & Morriconi, ; Elisio Chalde, & Miranda, , ). Both the start and the end of spawning periods are highly regulated by temperature.…”
