Searching for the superior solution to the population-based optimization problem: Processing of the wear resistant commercial AA6061 AMCs

Abstract: In this present work, stir casting technique was used to fabricate aluminum matrix composites with varying weight percentages of SiC (5, 10 and 15) reinforcements. The proper selection of process parameter such as pouring temperature, stirring speed, stirring time and pre-heat temperature of reinforcement can all influence the quality of the fabricated composites. The porosity level of composite should be minimized and the chemical reaction between reinforcement and matrix should be avoided. Optimization is an… Show more

“…Finally, in a number of previous papers on metal manufacturing, several optimization techniques, such as the genetic algorithm, [131][132][133][134] particle swarm optimization, 46,135 Bayesian optimization, [136][137][138] and even statistical approaches like response surface methodology, 17,139,140 Taguchi's design of experiment, and analysis of variance (ANOVA), [141][142][143] have been used. The main difference between these methods and the RL is that the former do not ''learn from experience.''…”

“…Another requirement is that the porosity and chemical reactions between the reinforcing particles and the metal matrix should be minimized [36][37][38]. During the solidification of the matrix alloy, the particles in the melt can move towards or away from the solidification front.…”
