Searches for additional Higgs bosons and for vector leptoquarks in ττ final states in proton-proton collisions at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV

Abstract: Three searches are presented for signatures of physics beyond the standard model (SM) in ττ final states in proton-proton collisions at the LHC, using a data sample collected with the CMS detector at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1. This exclusion follows from the combination of stringent eEDM constraints and limits from LHC searches for additional Higgs bosons at 13 TeV, most notably from searches for di-τ resonances below 125 GeV [97]. “…In this work we point out that constraints on a τ and d τ that are competitive or even superior to those quoted in (1) and ( 2) can be derived from the tau-pair production measurements [10][11][12] obtained in proton-proton (pp) collisions at the LHC Run II. The important observation that leads to this conclusion is that, as a simple consequence of the anomalous moments corresponding to Wilson coefficients of non-renormalisable operators, the contributions of a τ and d τ to the Drell-Yan (DY) production process pp → τ + τ − are enhanced at high energies compared to the SM background.…”
