Employing the Bonn-Gatchina partial wave analysis framework (PWA), we have analyzed HADES data of the reaction p(3.5 GeV) + p → pK + Λ. This reaction might contain information about the kaonic cluster "pp K − " (with quantum numbers J P = 0 − and total isospin I = 1/2) via its decay into pΛ. Due to interference effects in our coherent description of the data, a hypothetical K N N (or, specifically "pp K − ") cluster signal need not necessarily show up as a pronounced feature (e.g. a peak) in an invariant mass spectrum like pΛ. Our PWA analysis includes a variety of resonant and non-resonant intermediate states and delivers a good description of our data (various angular distributions and two-hadron invariant mass spectra) without a contribution of a K N N cluster. At a confidence level of CL s = 95% such a cluster cannot contribute more than 2-12% to the total cross section with a pK + Λ final state, which translates into a production cross-section between 0.7 μb and 4.2 μb, respectively. The range of the upper limit depends on the assumed cluster mass, width and production process.

The linearly polarized photon beam in the GeV energy region at SPring-8 is produced by backwardCompton scattering of laser photons from 8 GeV electrons. The current LEPS facility studies photoproduction of hadrons such as ϕ and K mesons in the forward angles, while the newly built LEPS2 facility currently concentrates on studies of neutral meson productios with a large solid-angle calorimeter BGOegg. In my talk, I report on the selected results including the Θ + study from LEPS and the status of the LEPS2 experiments.

The investigation of the kaon-nucleon interaction has been intensified in the last years due to new measurements of the (1405) resonance and indications on the existence of the ppK − bound state. Such results are heavily discussed, since they can lead to new knowledge about the K-Nucleon interaction. In the last years, the reaction p+p→p+K + + has been measured at the GSI Helmholtzcentre in Darmstadt with the FOPI and the HADES spectrometers at beam energies of 3.1 GeV and 3.5 GeV, respectively. New analyses methods have been developed to understand quantitatively all the processes contributing to the pK + final state. At the FOPI experiment a set of around 1.000 events and in the HADES experiment around 22.000 events of the exclusive reaction p+p→p+K + + could be extracted. These reconstructed exclusive events were analyzed within the Bonn Gatchina Partial Wave Analysis (BG-PWA) framework, which provides a coherent description of the data including several resonant and non-resonant production channels. The results have shown that the inclusion of interferences between different channels has to be considered in the analysis. Based on the description of the data with the Partial Wave Analysis an upper limit on the cross-section for the production of the ppK − could be determined.
