Search for T-invariance violation in pd-scattering

Abstract: Abstract. Scattering of protons with transversal polarization P p y on deuterons with tensor polarization P xz provides a null-test signal for time reversal invariance violating but Pparity conserving effects. The dedicated experiment will be done at COSY facility at proton beam energy 135 MeV using internal deuteron target. I give a brief review of results of theoretical calculations of the null-test observable within the spin-dependent Glauber theory at beam energies 100-1000 MeV considering phenomenological… Show more

“…The measurement of such a p d total cross section in a transmission experiment with an external beam is much less efficient with respect to a storage ring, given the loss in statistics in a single pass configuration. In addition, in a storage ring, one can measure the total cross section simply by measuring the lifetime of the beam as it passes through the target [20][21][22].…”

“…Recently, the measurement of Tviolating neutron scattering using the spallation neutron source is being prepared at Oak Ridge National Laboratory Laboratory and at J-PARC. Quantitative theoretical studies of the CP violating neutron scattering off nuclear target have also begun, starting from the simplest neutron-deuteron system [201][202][203]. Here the SM contribution will also be an important systematics which have to be controlled.…”

“…It provides a null-test signal for TVPC effects [4] and it will be measured in pd scattering at 135 MeV [3]. Theoretical studies of the energy dependence of the expected signal were performed at energies of the planned experiment [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] on the basis of the spin-dependent Glauber theory and demonstrate several unexpected effects. Among them are (i) the absense of the contribution from the lowest-mass meson-exchange (ρ meson) in the TVPC NN interaction, caused by its specific isospin, spin and momentum dependence; (ii) a strong impact of the deuteron D-wave on the null-test signal due to a destructive interference between the S -and D-wave contributions, even for zero transferred 3momentum; (iii) oscillating behaviour of the null-test signal as a function of the beam energy, i.e.…”
