Search for supersymmetry with photons inppcollisions ats=8TeV

Abstract: Two searches for physics beyond the standard model in events containing photons are presented. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb −1 of proton-proton collisions at ffiffi ffi s p ¼ 8 TeV, collected with the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The analyses pursue different inclusive search strategies. One analysis requires at least one photon, at least two jets, and a large amount of transverse momentum imbalance, while the other selects events with at least two photons and at l… Show more

“…The production of electroweak di-bosons, pp → V V , is amongst the most important processes studied at the LHC. The Higgs decay mode H → V V will be central to precision measurements of the Higgs quantum numbers and couplings during Run II [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. This requires extremely good control over the large pp → V V background, including in the Higgs off-shell region [9], which can be exploited to constrain HV V couplings [10] or the Higgs width [11][12][13].…”

“…However, this picture is somewhat misleading, since we have not included the NNLO QCD corrections to the qq channel in the theory predictions in Eq. (6). While these corrections are unknown in the fiducial region, it is perhaps interesting to see what happens if one estimates them by re-scaling NNLO QCD corrections to the inclusive cross section by the ratio of fiducial and inclusive cross sections.…”

“…The results obtained in the GGM are shown in Fig. 14(b), and are compared to the sensitivity of the discussed analysis [125] on simplified models of gluino-pair production. Two different simplified scenarios are considered.…”

“…To date, searches for gluino pair production at the ATLAS and the CMS experiments have put severe lower limits on the gluino mass at around 1.4 TeV at 95% CL. The limits are applicable for cases where the bino either is stable [33,34] or decays into a photon and a gravitino inside the detectors as the next-to-the lightest superparticle (NLSP) [35,36]. To satisfy this constraint, we infer that…”
