Search for Resonant Top-Antitop Production in the Lepton Plus Jets Decay Mode Using the Full CDF Data Set

Abstract: This Letter reports a search for a narrow resonant state decaying into two W bosons and a bottom-antibottom quark pair where one W boson decays leptonically and the other decays into a quark-antiquark pair. The search is particularly sensitive to top-antitop resonant production. We use the full data sample of proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.45 fb −1 . No evidence for res… Show more

“…By the start of the LHC program the Tevatron experiments had excluded a Z boson mass lower than 700 GeV [102,103]. In the course of 2011 and 2012 the limit was extended to 800 GeV by a D0 search on nearly 5 fb −1 [105] and to approximately 900 GeV by a CDF analysis of the complete Tevatron data set [106]. An ATLAS search on 2.4 fb −1 of 7 TeV LHC data [107] collected in 2011 reached a similar precision.…”

“…Constraints on Z TC2 have been set by the CDF [23,24] and D0 [25] collaborations using data from proton-antiproton collisions at the Tevatron. Previous constraints at the LHC were set using proton-proton collisions at √ s = 7 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 5 fb −1 by the ATLAS [16,26] and CMS [27][28][29] collaborations, and using 20 fb −1 of √ s = 8 TeV data by the CMS Collaboration [18].…”

“…Particles and couplings predicted by extensions of the SM can affect the observed production cross sections of top quarks. For example, the observed top-quark pair (tt) production cross section in all of the experimental final states may be enhanced above the SM expectation by the production of new resonances [9,10], or the observed production cross section in some of the experimental final states may be altered from the SM expectation by top quark decay into new channels, such as a hypothesized charged Higgs boson and b quark [11,12].…”
