Search forCPViolation inB0-B¯0Mixing Using Partial Reconst

Abstract: We present results of a search for CP violation in B0- B0 mixing with the BABAR detector. We select a sample of B0→D*- Xℓ+ ν decays with a partial reconstruction method and use kaon tagging to assess the flavor of the other B meson in the event. We determine the CP violating asymmetry ACP≡[N(B0B0)-N(B0B0)]/[N(B0B0)+N(B0B0)]=(0.06±0.17(-0.32)(+0.38))%, corresponding to ΔCP=1-|q/p|=(0.29±0.84(-1.61)(+1.88))×10(-3).

“…It is important to stress again that the almost O(10 −2 ) scale of that measured value is twenty times larger than SM expectations. On the other hand, the LHCb collaboration has recently started to measure the semileptonic asymmetry A s SL [4]; additional results concerning A s SL ± A d SL are also expected [23]. If the D0 measurement is to be interpreted as a clear signal of New Physics, LHCb results, in particular A s SL ± A d SL , should necessarily depart from the SM expectations…”

“…The values reported by the D0 collaboration [1] are around "3σ" away from Standard Model expectations, and this triggered intense activity to explore the potential of an ample variety of models beyond the SM to produce such values. As A b SL can be expressed in terms of the individual asymmetries A d SL and A s SL of B 0 d -B 0 d and B 0 s -B 0 s systems [4], it is customary to discuss in terms of them. In particular, since it is a common thought that the B factories have left little space for New Physics (NP) to contribute new sources of CP violation in the B 0 d -B 0 d system, the focus [5] has been on A s SL .…”
