We study the four-body AE ! l AE l AE X Ç decays where l ¼ e or and X ¼ , K, , and K Ã mesons. These decay processes violate the total lepton number (jÁLj ¼ 2) and can be induced by the exchange of Majorana neutrinos. We consider a scenario where these decays are dominated by the exchange of only one heavy neutrino, which produces an enhancement of the decay amplitude via the resonant mechanism. Searches for these novel decay channels with branching fractions sensitivities of Oð10 À7 Þ can provide constraints on the parameter space of the Majorana neutrinos, which are stronger than the ones obtained from ÁL ¼ 2 decays of charged pseudoscalar mesons.

One of the most interesting puzzles in particle physics today is that new physics is expected at the TeV energy scale to solve the hierarchy problem, and stabilise the Higgs mass, but so far no unambiguous signal of new physics has been found. Strong constraints on the energy scale of new physics can be derived from precision tests of the electroweak theory and from flavour-changing or CP -violating processes in strange, charm and beauty hadron decays. Decays that proceed via flavour-changing-neutral-current processes are forbidden at the lowest perturbative order in the Standard Model and are, therefore, rare. Rare b hadron decays are playing a central role in the understanding of the underlying patterns of Standard Model physics and in setting up new directions in model building for new physics contributions. In this article the status and prospects of this field are reviewed.

Searches of lepton-number violation in different processes are very useful to constrain the parameter space of Majorana neutrinos. Here we use available upper bounds on the branching fractions of B À ! D 0 þ À À and D 0 ! ð À À =K À À Þ À À decays to derive constraints on the mass and mixings of Majorana neutrinos by assuming they are produced resonantly in these four-body decays. While the excluded region obtained from B À decays are competitive with existing limits from three-body D À and B À decays, it is shown that experimental improvements on D 0 decays offer a good potential to provide similar results.
