Search for halo nucleus in Mg isotopes through the measurements of reaction cross sections towards the vicinity of neutron drip line

Abstract: Abstract. Reaction cross sections (σ R ) for 24−38 Mg on C targets at the energies of around 240 MeV/nucleon have been measured precisely at RIBF, RIKEN for the purpose of obtaining the crucial information on the changes of nuclear structure in unstable nuclei, especially around the so-called "island of inversion" region. In the island of inversion region, which includes neutron-rich Ne, Na, and Mg isotopes, the vanishing of the N = 20 magic number for neutrons have been discussed along with nuclear deformatio… Show more

“…Recently, measurements of σ R for 24−38 Mg isotopes on 12 C target at the beam energy of 240 MeV/nucleon have been reported in Ref. [41]. From a similar reasoning, it was suggested in this study that 37 Mg (Z = 12, N = 25) that lies in N = 20 − 28 island of inversion, is also a candidate for having a one-neutron halo structure.…”

“…The nucleus 37 Mg has a large uncertainty in its one-neutron separation energy (0.162±0.686 MeV [7]) and has controversies regarding its ground state spin-parity. Recently measured large breakup cross section [5] and reaction cross section [6] seems to suggest a halo structure in 37 Mg. The nuclei in island of inversion are expected to have significant components of 2p − 2h [ν(sd) −2 (f p) 2 ] neutron intruder configurations.…”

“…In this paper, we apply the microscopic framework to Mg isotopes that cross the IoI and reach the drip-line nucleus 40 Mg with the N = 28 magicity. We discuss where the border of the IoI is and whether the N = 20 and 28 magicities survive by comparing the theoretical results with recently measured σ R [18], and E(2 + ) and E(4 + ) [9]. This presentation is based on our recent work of Ref.…”
