Search for a diagnostic/prognostic biomarker for the brain cancer glioblastoma multiforme by 2D-DIGE-MS technique

Abstract: The prognosis of patients with glioblastoma multiforme, the most malignant adult glial brain tumor, remains poor in spite of advances in treatment procedures, including surgical resection, irradiation, and chemotherapy. Genetic heterogeneity of glioblastoma warrants extensive studies to gain a thorough understanding of the biology of this tumor. While there have been several studies of global transcript profiling of glioma with the identification of gene signatures for diagnosis and disease management, transla… Show more

“…2D DIGE was performed to compare the expression of whole-cell proteins of C. jejuni strains IA3902, IA5908, and NCTC11168 at Applied Biomics Inc. (Hayward, CA) following the established methods (Siboo et al 2008; Banerjee et al 2012). Briefly, 20 h cultures of bacteria were harvested from MH plates and centrifuged.…”

“…Previous studies on GBM protein biomarkers have used labeling techniques like iTRAQ and ICPL or gel-based proteomics strategies like 2DE or DIGE (2,9,10,31,55). They provided important insights into the molecular mechanisms in the disease.…”

“…Our procedure for protein analysis enables us to determine various simultaneous cell processes besides metabolic shifting. A remarkable glioblastoma molecular feature is the chaperones response, where some biomarkers [43] or therapy targets [44] could be found. Here are presented TRAP1 (HSP90 homologous), GRP78, GRP75 and HSPB1 proteins able to regulate some mitochondrial metabolic pathways and stabilize cancer cells through apoptosis evasion [45]; or could be involved in drug surveillance [38].…”
