“…None of the previous studies referred to the effect of sealing the femoral hole on HBL in TKA. [5,6,15] In the present studies, sealing the femoral hole significantly decreased HBL (511.4 mL vs 703.7 mL, P  < .05).…”

“…In a prospective randomized controlled trial (RCT) that included 100 patients undergoing TKA, Moo et al 9 demonstrated that the drop in serum Hb levels and total blood loss in sealed group were significantly lower than the control groups. On the other hand, Torres-Claramunt et al 10 reported no statistical differences were obtained with regard to blood drainage at 12 and 24 hours, the Hb value decreases at 72 hours and the number of blood transfusions between bone graft sealing and control groups. Protzman et al 14 also found that the drop in serum Hb levels and the percentage of blood transfusions were similar for the sealed and unsealed patients following unilateral TKA.…”

“…the femoral canal to the joint space, resulting in a significant increase in postoperative blood loss and blood transfusion rate. Thus, some surgeons seal the femoral hole in TKA intramedullary alignment and some studies [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] have reported that sealing the femoral hole in TKA can prevent hemoglobin (Hb) reduction, postoperative drainage, or blood transfusions.…”

“…Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can result in significant blood loss [1, 2]. One study estimated the average blood loos in TKA to be 1500 mL [3].…”

“…In recent years, several studies comparing ABTD and CSD have reported conflicting outcomes [1, 2224]. Whether the benefits of ABTD are limited to the reduction of the blood transfusion rate is unclear.…”
