Abstract:B y incorporating capillaries with long-fared ends in otherwise conventional U-tube or suspended-level viscometers, it is possible to produce instruments in which no significant kinetic energy effect occurs for the Reynolds numbers generally encountered in viscometry. A detailed experimental study of their behaviour has been made. Using the new viscometers a viscosity scale in absolute units can be established with greater accuracy and greater facility than has hitherto been possible.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
