SE-GPSR: Secured and Enhanced Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing Protocol for Vehicular Ad hoc Networks

Abstract: In Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET) play an essential role in improving road safety and traffic efficiency. Nevertheless, due to its special characteristics like high mobility, large size of the network and dynamic topology make routing of data in the vehicular ad hoc network more challenging. The problem in these networks is to determine the routing protocol best suited to this environment, and then secure it to provide optimal and secure routing for the data. Recently, p… Show more

“…These protocols must be flexible to the peculiarities and resources of VANET, where vehicles can face many obstacles, such as crossings, buildings, traffic lights, trees, resulting in insufficient channel quality and connectivity. Therefore, it is necessary to use an efficient and reliable routing protocol to have an effective communication without losing data [12]. Various systems are involved through this modern notion of VANETs, for example, areas of traffic management, routing, handover, signal propagation, autonomous vehicles, etc.…”

“…A stable and improved variant of the Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing (GPSR) protocol is introduced by the overlay. This protocol consists of two modules that incorporate an upgrade that minimises transmission delays and message control in the GPSR routing protocol [12].…”

“…In these networks, vehicles are equipped with wireless short and medium range communication. Actually, the vehicles can communicate with each other with two methods, either Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) or Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) where vehicle communicates with the equipment next to the road named Road Side Unit (RSU) [3]. VANET are used to meet the communication needs applied to transport networks to improve driving and road safety for road users.…”

“…The classification of the routing protocols is according to two types: routing based on topology and geographic routing. The literature attests that geographical routing tends to be the most forceful and attractive one [4] [5]. Researchers in [6] attests that Geo-Networking has many merits and features, such as high scalability, good performance when velocity of vehcles is high and various information can be included in the status information like geographic location, time stamp, speed and exchange it via location based service.…”
