Screening of cultivable endophytic bacterial isolates for their plant growth promoting activity in rice

Abstract: Large amounts of chemical fertilizers are being used to enhance the growth and development of the rice (Oryza sativa L.) crop. Chemical fertilizers are too expensive; hence, endophytic bacteria with growth promoting activity can be considered to promote the crop plant growth to minimize the usage of chemical fertilizers and to have sustainable rice cultivation. This study was undertaken to explore the potential of endophytic bacterial isolates (EBIs) which were isolated previously. The objective of this study … Show more

“…On the other hand, the endophytic bacterium P. poae was able to improve the growth of wheat plants. Various pathways of endophytic bacteria, such as phosphate solubilization, IAA production, nitrogen fixation, HCN production, and production of siderophores, can stimulate plant growth [ 14 , 16 , 38 ]. Although phosphorus is essential for plant growth, it is often present in low levels and difficult to absorb in agricultural soils.…”

“…The gains were of the order of 65; 50; 47; 31 and 62 % for FDM and for the nutritional contents of Ca, Zn, Fe and Mn, respectively. The higher nutritional contents may be related to the release of siderophores, responsible for the chelation of Fe and Mn, and compounds that solubilize phosphate and zinc by the bacterial mix, thus improving the absorption of these nutrients by plants (Firdous et al, 2019;Zecchin & Mógor, 2017). Other studies, in tomato cultivation, also emphasize the efficiency of endophytic bacteria in the supply of macro and micronutrients (Barretti et al, 2008) and in improving the quality of the vegetable in a greenhouse (Mena-Violante & Olalde-Portugal, 2007).…”

“…Qualitative indicators of vegetable raw materials are determined by many factors such as the zone of growth and agrotechnical methods of cultivation (Postnikov et al, 2021;Yakovenko et al, 2020;Firdous and Subhash, 2017;Kumar et al, 2017;Rani and Latha, 2017). When studying the mineral composition of apple fruits, a database was formed for more than 500 samples according to the level of accumulation of magnesium cations depending on the phase of fruit development -fruit size of 8-12 mm, 40 days before ripening and removable maturity (Prichko et al, 2019).…”
