“…The low to moderate relationships found between PWS total scores, as well as Confident and Responsible factor scores, and the summary child adjustment and achievement scores, were consistent with prior findings on cross-perspective concordance among adjustment measures (Achenbach, McConaughy & Howell, 1987;Glidewell et al, 1963;Love & Kaswan, 1974;Plomin & Foch, 1981;Touliatos & Eindholm, 1981). “…Another group of studies explored relationships between parent ratings of child adjustment and behavior, and diverse other data sources including: ratings by other judges such as teachers, mental health professionals, pediatricians; sociometric measures; behavior observations; and self-report measures (Cowen, Dorr, Trost & Izzo, 1972;Glidewell, Domke & Kantor, 1963;Love & Kaswan, 1974;Miller, 1964;Plomin & Foch, 1981;Touliatos & Lindholm, 1981). Those studies, many of which are based on clinical samples, report generally low to moderate relationships between parent judgments and other data sources.…”

“…Children with such behaviour problems were also found to show poor attainment and concentration at school. Glidewell, et al (1963) in St. Louis, also found in a sample of 830 third-grade children that the number of ' symptoms ' reported by the mother showed a positive relationship to the degree of maladjustment reported by the teacher. The pilot investigation carried out in Birmingham for the Underwood Committee (Ministry of Education, 1955) found that psychologists' clinical ratings of the questionnaires completed by parents and teachers agreed in 60-65 per cent.…”

“…As Mosier (1951) points out the purpose of prediction is to estimate a future act or event before criterion measures are available. Glidewell et al (1963) offer an excellent discussion of the problems of developing a screening instrument which predicts serious problems of living. Essentially those problems revolve around the extent that an instrument erroneously predicts serious problems of living (false positives) and the converse, not predicting subsequent failures (false negatives). In this study an effort is made to separate and maintain some degree of independence between the predictors and criterion measures.…”
