Screening cardiovascular risk in patients with high depression scores

Abstract: Objective:Protection against cardiovascular diseases is provided by the dynamics of risk screening and counseling of primary health care services. Depression is known to pose a risk for cardiovascular diseases. The aim of our study was to determine which specific features of well-known depressed people who had not yet experienced a cardiovascular event were associated with cardiovascular risk. Methods:This study was conducted in patients at the Corum Gulabibey Family Health Center between June 2016 and June 201… Show more

“…First, studies have reported that the severity of depressive symptoms is related to the risk of CHD. 25 In this study, we did not assess the severity of MDD using scales, although we have ensured that all patients were in the acute phase. Second, we stipulated strict inclusion criteria for healthy controls, especially for items that related to the FRS, such as hyperlipidemia; this may have led to a lower risk of CHD in the healthy controls.…”

“…People with MDD have a higher risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) than the general population. 11,15,25 MDD has been considered an independent risk factor in the development of CHD 3 as well as a predictor of poor prognosis of cardiovascular events. 7 Therefore, exploring the mechanism of the increased risk of CHD in patients with MDD is of great importance for the early identification of and intervention for CHD in patients with MDD.…”

“…We then evaluated whether or not the associations between depressive symptoms and the risk of HS or HS plus high fibrosis score differed by the presence of obesity (as defined by BMI ⩾ 25 kg/m 2 ) (World Health Organization and Regional Office for the Western Pacific, 2000 ), because the effect of depression on various clinical outcomes appears to be increased by the presence of obesity (Ladwig et al ., 2006 ; Yakar and Ertekin, 2018 ). The interactions between the CES-D categories and obesity on the risk of HS, and the high probability of advanced liver fibrosis were tested using likelihood ratio tests.…”

“…In addition, obesity is closely associated with both NAFLD and depression (Buzzetti et al ., 2016 ; Jantaratnotai et al ., 2017 ), and may act as a mediator or effect modifier in the relationship between depression and NAFLD. Depression and obesity often co-exist (Jantaratnotai et al ., 2017 ), and previous studies have suggested a synergistic effect of the co-existence of depression and obesity on adverse health outcomes such as coronary heart disease risk (Ladwig et al ., 2006 ; Yakar and Ertekin, 2018 ).…”

“…According to the statistic for 2016, circulatory system diseases were in the first place as the cause of death in Turkey (39.84%) [2]. Additionally, 7.6% and 3.84% of men and women in our country, respectively, lose their lives due to coronary artery heart disease (CHD) [13]. It is known that CHD has a positive correlation with obesity, age, HT, DM, LDL, and high triglyceride [14].…”
